Directions: You can create a tissue box analyzing your favorite book for extra credit. You must cover the four main sides of the tissue box as indicated below. You must use a sealed/full tissue box so that it can be used and seen in class by other students. You can complete ONE tissue box analysis per quarter.
Supplies: a new tissue box (square or rectangular), paper to cover all four sides, and colors (markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.) Directions: Pick one of your favorite books that you would recommend to your peers to read. Use paper to cover the sides. (Hint: It might be easier to measure the sides out on papers, do the work on the paper, and then cut and glue it onto the tissue box.) Side 1/Book Cover: You can recreate the book cover OR create your own book cover for the book. It must be colored! Side 2/Book Review: Write a 5-7 sentence book review explaining what you did and did not like about the book. Side 3/Symbol: Draw a symbol from the book and explain what it represents in the book and why. Side 4/Draw a character from the book and list 5-10 characteristics of that person. Include the character's name and whether they are major/minor. DUE DATES*: Last day to submit for quarter 1: Monday, October 16 Last day to submit for quarter 2: Friday, December 8 Last day to submit for quarter 3: Friday, March 15 Last date to submit for quarter 4: Friday, May 17 *ALL DUE DATES ARE BASED ON THE END OF QUARTERS AND SEMESTERS AND, THEREFORE, CANNOT BE CHANGED. IF A BOOK REVIEW IS ATTEMPTED TO BE COMPLETED AFTER THE DUE DATE, IT WILL BE COUNTED FOR THE NEXT GRADING PERIOD. |
Although there may be small extra credit opportunities offered randomly in class, there is only one significant extra credit assignment that will be assigned outside of the classroom. This is the book review.
Book reviews can be done quarterly (one per quarter) and must be accompanied by four parts: reading log, short-answer questions, extended response, and an interview. Your book review will NOT be accepted if there is not an interview or if it is missing any of the aforementioned parts. Also, your book must be approved IN ADVANCE. I will determine if the book you would like to read is at the appropriate reading level for you. If you fail to have your book approved ahead of time, it may be turned down when you attempt to interview. No books that are used as curriculum are ever allowed, along with books that are movies (unless your teacher provides you special permission). All book reviews are due prior to the last day of the quarter and a book review interview MUST be scheduled in advance. (Do not assume that there will be time to do a book review interview the day before the last day of the quarter.) It is suggested that you make your appointment a week in advance.
